Meal Plan for the Weekend

Thinking about what to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner can be draining sometimes and that’s why I decided this week’s show should create your meal plan for the weekend. Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day we begin our food journey this morning with brunch at my favorite spot in downtown Birmingham at Yo Mama’s Restaurant.

They’re opened for Brunch every 2nd and last Saturday of the month and weekdays from 10:30-2:30 for lunch. The owner is Denise Peterson, I call her mama has some of the best tasting home made meals. Her most popular is her fried chicken and waffles. You can also get her spicy wings to go with your waffles if you prefer or get half spicy & half friend.

Besides the chicken and waffles, they also have a killer shrimp and grits which is served in a silver mixing bowl. Now the thing that sets their dish apart is the rue & Conecuh sausage. OMG is all I could say when the first taste hit my mouth. Mama also cooks up am inspired “Meal of the Day” which she typically think of each morning. if you want one of those you must call early, check their fb page or subscribe to their eblast because she only make a small amount. When they are gone, that’s it for the day. But you can still order other items from the menu from fish tacos to fried tilapia to burgers. If you are a healthy eater, make Yo Mama’s one of your top spots as she has a gluten free menu and many items including her wings are made with gluten free flour.

Now for lunch, how about a foot long Philly Cheese steak from Birmingham’s cheese steak guru at T-Bones Authentic Philly Cheese steaks and Hoagies. Owner Anthony Crawford decided to bring some of his northern cuisine down south. With more than 20 different flavors or cheese steaks, fries and salads on his menu there is something you will love. All of his sandwiches are cooked to order with a robust flavor or tender beef or chicken, loaded with high quality cheese on New Orleans bread to create an authentic northern flavor you can get 6 days a week on the Southside of Birmingham. He’s opened from 11 am-10 pm during the week and weekends opened until 1: 30 am. Now if you don’t want to wait in line, then take a late lunch! But I guarantee, it’s worth it!

Finally for dinner, we love a meat and three or when you can get your meat and veggies. Sherry’s Cafe in Trussville has a wide variety to choose from. And if you are a mac and cheese lover like I am, you definitely have to go there. Here’s a little secret, Sherry’s peach cobbler is so popular she will let you get it as a side. That’s a wise choice so you can get a slice of pecan pie for dessert. I got a whole pie from her during the holidays and threatened my family not to eat any of it.

I hope you enJOYed your weekend Meal Plan. Please let me know which was your favorite segment and if you tried any of these spots. Also, please don’t forget to support my awesome sponsors that makes this show possible.
