Chicken Cooked Mediterranean Style, Fried & BBQ

If you've been following me on social media, you'll know I'm trying to eat healitehr. Since the Mediterranean diet has long been publicized as healthy as much of the food is made with fresh ingredients and grilled, I thought I'd check out my friends at Eli's Jersulem Grill. The cuisine at Eli’s Jerusalem Grill is no different. They’re very popular for lamb, chicken and beef Sharma, humus and kabobs. However, the owner Eli made a chicken schnitzel that literally melted in my mouth. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy the other popular items, but when I can get my favorite food cooked healthy, it really made my day. Eli’s Jerusalem Grill not only serves plates but they also have sandwiches from s

Pizza worth burning your mouth

Some of the best tasting food is food that’s been cooked on the same grill for years & years. I think the same is true when it comes to pizza ovens. Davenport’s Pizza in the Mountain Brook community has been around since 1964. The family owned pizza palace can be seen rolling out fresh dough as soon as you walk inside. I almost burned my mouth taking a bite of the thin crust pizza because I couldn't wait for it to cool! Here’s my 10 ten things that make Davenport’s stand out as a one of a kind pizza. 1. Each thin crust pizza is hand tossed to the correct size and filled with fresh ingredients daily. When I say fresh, I mean exactly that. The sausage is bought locally but gets its flavor from

Cheers at The Wine Loft

The Wine Loft is known for a great place for drinks as it has more than 200 varieties of wine. And it’s also a great downtown location for networking, but the food during Birmingham Restaurant Week is a #musttry reason. They have a steal of a deal with a 3 course meal for only $20. The first course was a choice of Caprese Salad or Truffle Hummus. I opted for the hummus which was served with warm pita bread. It has a very rich, smooth and creamy taste which took the pre-hungry edge off. The entrée options were a BLT served with chips and spring mix or Asian style braised pork belly over fettuccine pasta with a side of asparagus wrapped in prosciutto. Since I had the BLT sliders the night be

Good Eats at Grille 29

Obviously being a restaurant TV host & extreme foodie, you eat at a variety of places, but there are a few of them that really, really, really excites me. Grille 29 is one of them! They take not only the quality of food, but the overall presentation very serious. In fact, they’re very competitive in many local food events. Last year they won an award at the Taste of Birmingham for their scallop with bacon jam. After one bite, I could not stop saying bacon jam and walking over to the table for one more bite. So now when I see them out, I have to ask do you have any bacon jam tucked away? So as I met some friends to enjoy their Birmingham Restaurant Week special, we were treated by one of the

A night at Bistro 218

Bistro 218 is nestled along 20th Street North between 3 & 4th avenue that offers a variety of upscale lunch and dining options. For Birmingham Restaurant Week they offered a 3 course meal for $40. I did enjoy the warm bread with the garlic infused butter as a starter. The first option was a salad or gumbo. Seeing my hometown is Mobile, I opted for the gumbo. The menu called it “New Orleans Style File’Gumbo with crawfish, shrimp, Andouille Sausage. I must admit everyone can not make gumbo, so I had my fingers crossed as a first time diner. It had lots of okra and very rich rue. I personally would have liked a little more meat in my cup because I’m a huge seafood lover, but Bistro 218 did del

Fleming's is more than a steakhouse

If you’ve never been to Fleming's Steakhouse, Birmingham Restaurant Week is a great opportunity to check them out especially if you are on a budget. The upscale restaurant offers a 3 course meal including salad, a choice of petite filet which they are known for their mouthwatering steaks, double breast of chicken and a double thick pork chop followed by a modest slice of moist carrot cake with caramel sauce for only $40. The Caesar salad made with a variety of fresh romaine lettuce leaves topped with a very savory salad creamy salad dressing. Nick topped mine with some fresh cracked pepper which added a pop of extra flavor. I’m grateful for this option so I can stick to my eating plan. I sel

Birmingham Restaurant Week 2017

Birmingham Restaurant Week officially kicked off yesterday and I got the chance to sample a few of the locals special deals. I had everything from #NashvilleHotChickenSliders to jerk chicken. My first stop was at Eugene's Hot Chicken. I've been following Eugene's since he was a pop-up shop with lines out the door for his spicy Nashville Hot chicken. Now he has a food truck and a brick and mortar and his lines are still out the door! If the sliders don't fill you up, you can always order whole pieces of chicken from the regular menu. FYI-the sides to get from Eugene's are the collard greens and potato salad. Please call me to eat with you! If you feel like taking the bus to avoid the constru
