Burgers, Oysters and Chicken worth the drive

This weekend is the World Food Championship in Orange Beach, Alabama which is the BIGGEST food competition in the world. There are more than 400 cook teams that comes from all over the world to compete including many of them from Birmingham and surrounding areas. But one chef that I met 3 years ago who placed in the top 10 for sandwich category, now has his own restaurant in Greenville, Alabama and the food is WORTH THE DRIVE!

Now you can't get his food this weekend as he is competing again in Orange Beach at WFC. But he now has me using Alaga syrup on my fried chicken. Plow and Anchor is a great day trip if you're looking for some good food from a local guy. Win or Lose at WFC, Brandon Burleson's food always taste like a winner to me! Plow & Anchor is located right off the Greenville, Exit on the left if you skip the turn in to Walmart.

An old time favorite is back in the Birmingham area, but with a twist! Shoney's has recently opened in Fultondale, Alabama and not only does it serve fried chicken on its lunch and dinner buffet, but they also have a bar! So join them for Happy Hour along with their All American Burger and don't forget that delicious strawberry pie for dessert.

Finding some fresh seafood is a little easier since Wintzell's has opened a 2nd location in Cahaba Heights. You can get those fresh chargrilled oysters and something I learned that is pretty popular are their fried green tomatoes topped with a crawfish sauce that should be a side soup.
