Joy's Patio Dining Picks
Well we're going on our 2nd week of dining rooms being open at local restaurants. I'm not sure about you, but suddenly I love being on the patio! I'm not quite ready to dine inside, but I do want to continue supporting my local partners. So here’s some of my Top 5 Patio Spots that’s #JoyApproved:
1. Fig Tree Birmingham nestled in Cahaba Height on the back side of a hair salon, owner & chef JP Holland and his team is still serving up his farm to table meat & 3 on the patio & curbside. He & his staff are wearing masks, serving drinks in plastic cups while delivering hungryman size food. I've been twice and can't wait to go back and try the catfish. This plate was under $12. They're open Tuesday-Sat for lunch & dinner.
2. Little Donkey Homewood also donned in masks and sanitizing tables also made me feel safe while delivering the good eats on the patio. They specialize in Mexican Soul Food which translates to great tacos and fried chicken. I am sad the weekend Happy Hour is gone, but the service and flavor is still there. They do allow inside seating for those wanting cooler air. Joy prefers evening natural air.
3. Satterfield’s Restaurant believe it or not also has a patio that many gather for a nice after work experience. They’re hoping to get some new faces in with their new daily Happy Hour menu for dine in only. It includes some half priced apps and select adult beverages from 4 to 6 pm. They're located in Cahaba Heights 1/2 mile from the Summit.
4. Saw’s Soul Kitchen in Avondale have a small patio area in front of the restaurant but have made a walk up window for all the pick up orders. We know about the legendary wings, but you should try their chicken thighs which is now on the menu because of an accidental delivery! Instead of crying of spilled chicken parts, they put them on the grill and glazed them up. I refer to them as “Chicken Candy!” They’re drizzled in their infamous sauce tender & sweet. Oooh wee!
Finally #5 is Five Birmingham! When the restaurant closed, they opened their kitchen to serve free food to anyone at Linn park from their “American Lunch” food truck. But now, the patio located on the corner in the Lakeview community is open for dinner and brunch. It’s a great spot to meet after work or a great date night! This picture was taken there just before Covid19 as we were having weekly meetups. Can't wait for the good times again...
